The citizens of Montenegro have, via the ‘’No smoking’’ app, since the 22nd of December by the end of the year sent 102 reports, from which 90 of them refer to the violation of the law about the restriction of the use of tobacco products in hospitality facilities, the Center for Monitoring and Research (CeMI) announced.

CeMI has, in cooperation with the NGO Juventas and with the support of the World Health Organization, created an app called ‘’No smoking’’, which allows citizens to report cases of smoking in closed spaces, in opposition to the law about the restriction of the use of tobacco products.

‘’From the moment the app became operational, on 22nd of December, until the end of the year 2023, we have noted 102 reports by the citizens from various parts of the country. The majority came from Podgorica (28), while Pljevlja (20) and Niksic (14) also noted a high number of reports’’, it is stated in the announcement.

From CeMI, they pointed out that significant activities of citizens have also been noted in Rozaje (six), Berane and Herceg Novi (four), Budva and Tivat (three), and two each have arrived from Bijelo Polje, Cetinje, Danilovgad, Kolasin, Kotor, Plav, Tuzi, Ulcinj, Zabljak, and one each from Bar and Gusinje.

‘’The majority of reports, 90 of them, referred to hospitality facilities. Apart from hospitality facilities, we have also received 12 reports which referred to state authorities and local self-government bodies, public enterprises and health facilities’’ it is stated in the announcement.

In CeMI they consider this response to be a great indicator of growing conscience of the citizens about the harm of tobacco smoke and their dedication to creating a healthier life environment.

‘’We have established an important cooperation with the Administration for inspection affairs in the developing of the app, to which the reports of the citizens are being sent to for further process, after which an inspection is carried out and in case of violation of the law fines are issued’’, they state from CeMI.

From that organization they made clear, that apart from the option of reporting irregularities, the app offers review of arrived reports as well, following of their status, as well as a possibility of further getting to know law regulations which regulate the use of tobacco products in closed spaces.

‘’So we invite all citizens to download the ‘’No Smoking’’ app and report violation of the no smoking rule in closed spaces. Your participation is crucial not only for the preventive effect of the app, but also for directing inspection bodies to the location where the law is not respected’’, they stated from CeMI.
