From silence to sentiment: LGBTQI+ Representation in Montenegrin Media (2011-2025)
The main objective of this project is to contribute to greater social acceptance and visibility of LGBTQI+ persons in Montenegro by promoting accurate, balanced, and fact-based media reporting. In addition, the project’s specific objectives are: specific goals - (S1) reducing negative media narratives and hate speech targeting LGBTQI+ individuals and (S2) To foster evidence-based advocacy for systemic change in Montenegro by generating and sharing data-driven insights including analysis of media content, public comments, and sentiment on LGBTQI+ media representation with civil society, media professionals, and institutional stakeholders, to promote inclusive public narratives and informed policymaking. Through the systematic collection and analysis of all media articles and online comments related to LGBTIQ+ issues in selected media outlets during the period 2011–2024, the project will identify dominant narratives, patterns of bias, and public reactions that have shaped perceptions of the LGBTIQ+ community over time.
