Ana Nenezic, executive director of the Center for Monitoring and Research (CeMI), expects that the upcoming parliamentary election campaign will, as she puts it, be filled with both promises and accusations.
“I believe that the Europe Now Movement (PES) will set the foundation and pace of the campaign, while other parties will position themselves based on whether they expect a coalition with PES after the elections or not. Those who attack PES do not expect a coalition, while those who lower the tone expect a coalition, as all polls show PES's dominance,” Nenezic said on the show Pretres on Radio Television of Montenegro.
Speaking about the DPS list led by the acting president of DPS, Danijel Zivkovic, Nenezic said the list could be a refreshment, as it includes younger members, and some officials associated with scandals are absent from it.
“This is not a surprise; the question was who would head the list. I expected it to be a non-partisan figure who would bring new energy in terms of commitment to EU integration,” Nenezic said.
She also stated that Montenegro needs a strong opposition.
“We will see how DPS will perform in the elections. They are in constant decline, holding about 20% of the votes, which is not insignificant. I expect more coalitions and additional surprises,” Nenezic added.
Regarding the coalitions of the Democrats and URA, she expects them to unite around the fight against organized crime and corruption, while PES will run its campaign focused on economic issues.
She also mentioned that the change in Andrija Mandic's rhetoric during the presidential campaign was positive, but she doesn't expect it to continue.
“There is a high probability that Milan Knezevic will head the list. They will stick to the far-right agenda and evoke strong emotions, as that’s the easiest way to win over voters. This is their attempt to regain some of their electorate,” Nenezic said, adding that she expects the misuse of state resources during the election campaign.
