In the past two months, CeMI has organized two meetings of the Citizens’ Council for Free and Fair Elections.
The Council represents an initiative aimed at improving the electoral process in Montenegro, with a special focus on ensuring transparency, respect for democratic standards and protecting voting rights.
The goal is to update and establish a public dialogue on all contentious provisions of electoral legislation in Montenegro. The Council’s members, including representatives from non-governmental sector, academia and experts in law and political science, will work to identify key challenges Montenegro faces in organizing elections.
As part of its activities, the Council will analyze existing legislative frameworks and consider examples of best practices from other democratic countries. Members will also work together to develop recommendations for reform and improvement of electoral legislation in Montenegro.
The Citizens’ Council was formed as part of the project “For Free and Fair Elections – Montenegro 2023/2024”, which is financially supported by the British Embassy in Podgorica.
